StotraYagna – FAQs

In order to celebrate Bhagavan Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti (May 15, 2021), Chinmaya Mission Chicago is announcing an online #StotraYagna. The #StotraYagna was a massive success last year with 120 participants offering beautiful stotras in the form of chanting, playing instrument and dancing.

What is the online #StotraYagna?

#StotraYagna is our collective offering of stotras composed by Bhagavan Adi Shankaracharya in the form of chanting, singing, playing instrument or dance videos. The videos can be submitted from May 15 – 31, 2021 on social media tagging @ChinmayaMissionChicago and hashtag #StotraYagna.

Who can participate in #StotraYagna?

All children, youth and adults can participate, whether they are Chinmaya mission members or not. We strongly encourage all mission families to use this opportunity to learn and present the stotras. We also ask for your help in encouraging your non-mission friends across the world to participate.

What stotras can I offer?

We ask for compositions of Bhagavan Adi Shankaracharya. You can refer to this link for suggestions and the verses. However, you can also choose to offer any other stotras.

Do I need to memorize the stotra? Should I chant all the verses?

No, it is not necessary to memorize. You may use a book. You can choose to chant an entire stotra or select verses. You may also chant multiple stotras.

How do I submit my videos for the #StotraYagna?

  1. Record a good quality video in LANDSCAPE mode using your smartphone or video camera. (Suggestions – pleasant background with photo or murti of Bhagavan Adi Shankaracharya or any devata, dressed presentably, if possible, in Indian clothes)
  2. Post your video on your Facebook and/or Instagram with your name, age (if child), adding hashtag #StotraYagna and tag @ChinmayaMissionChicago (NOTE – This step is very important. This is the only way we can notice your videos)
  3. We will be resharing your chanting video on the @ChinmayaMissionChicago page. Please like this page, watch and enjoy all the renditions in this page. (Link here https://www.facebook.com/Chinmayamissionchicago)

By posting your videos, you permit Chinmaya Mission Chicago to share your videos and names on our social media, purely for purposes of the celebration (and not commercial purposes)

If you have any questions or suggestions, please email Ram Anand or Deepa Salem.
