Chant, Learn & Live Gita is the powerful instruction given by our Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinamayananda in order to enable us to live a noble and inspired life. Bhagavad Gita chanting and the associated competitions are vehicles for inspiring and motivating children and adults to learn and memorize the sacred verses of Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

The Gita, which teaches the Supreme Truth and the art of living, has inspired millions of people including great world leaders and achievers.

Chinmaya Mission conducts Bhagavad Gita competition in all the centers located world wide for children, youth, and adults which consists of thousands of participants each year.

Spring 2025 Bhagavad Gita Chanting Competition [ Chapter 5 - all verses ]

Register now for the Spring 2025 Gita Chanting Competition to be conducted on Sat, Apr 12, 2025 from 1 pm. 

Competition will be held “in-person” at Chinmaya Mission Chicago – Badri Center and  is open to “Bala Vihar” registered students & their families from Chicago area.

Participants are grouped as follows:
Group A – PreKG/KG
Group B – Grades 1 & 2
Group C – Grades 3 & 4
Group D – Grades 5 & 6
Group E – Grades 7 & 9
Group F – Grades 10 to 12
Group G – Adults

Competition format:

  • Range of verses is randomly picked by the participant at the time of the competition.
  • “Arjuna uvāca” and/or “śrī Bhagavānuvāca” must be chanted if it is in the range of verses
  • Chanting of introduction (“om śrī paramātmane namaḥ.”…) and conclusion (“om tatsat iti……”) is expected.  However, no points are assigned or deducted. Judges will provide instructions at the time of chanting.
  • Participants in Pre-KG/KG group chant first ten verses from memory
  • Participants in grades 1 & 2 chant randomly selected 12 contiguous verses from memory from the first 20 verses.
  • Participants in the remaining groups (Grade three to adults) chant two randomly selected sets of six contiguous verses from 01 to 29 from memory. For each set, lead judge prompts by reading last quarter of the previous verse.  Participant chants the following six verses and stops.
  • Scoring is based on the following factors:
    • Completeness
    • Pronunciation
    • Clarity & delivery
    • Overall effect
  • If a participant gets stuck, judge will help once

All participants will get participation certificates. Top three finishers in each group will be awarded trophies
